Personal Protection Outside the Home
Course Introduction
The Personal Protection Outside the Home course continues where the Personal Protection Inside the Home course leaves off. The prerequisites for participating in this course are the Basic Pistol and Inside courses. The principals used in this course build on the previous two.
The Outside course goes into new techniques of shooting, but avoidance rather than confrontation is emphasized. The techniques taught in the Outside course are not meant to be absolutes, for no two individuals approach any given problem in the same way.
Each student will be challenged to explore their abilities. While they will be taught specific techniques, they will be encouraged to begin exploring slight variations to suit their particular experience level and physical condition.
The Outside course uses numerous dry-fire and live-fire exercises to practice and hone shooting skills.
Course Eligibility (per NRA requirements):
“The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home Course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as applicable under federal or Colorado state law and of good repute. It is much more than just a routine shooting course, however, because it prepares individuals for the responsibility of carrying a personal protection firearm in public. It is important that participants have sufficient maturity and life experiences to be able to assess various situations and make mature, appropriate decisions about those situations.”
